Even small amounts of oil can smother or posion <br /> i:he eggs and larva of organisms that live in the water. Toxic materials also <br /> c:an weak n fish and make them susceptible to fatal diseases. <br /> In regon, the storm drain stencil program is sponsored by the Oregon <br /> (:hapter of the American Public Works Association. Local governments <br /> administe the program. Over 30 jurisdictions in Oregon participate in the <br /> storm drain stenciling project as a way to remind people to not dump <br /> pollutants into storm drains and to altert them to the impact on the <br /> I!,, E~nvironme t and water quality. <br /> Any chool, business, scout group, neighborhood group, or concerned <br /> citizen i terested in volunteering to paint stencils should contact the city <br /> of Eugene Public Works Maintenance Division. Maintenance will provide <br /> stencils, safety vests, cones, and paint.
