<br /> i <br /> <br /> i <br /> Public Works <br /> City of Eugene <br /> 858 Pearl Street <br /> April 3, 992 Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br /> (503) 687-5262 <br /> NEWS RELEASE <br /> CONTACT: Eric Jones, Public Works Information Specialist, 683-8823 <br /> FOR IMMED ATE RELEASE <br /> EUGENE AIRPORT RUNWAY EXTENSION PROJECT RECEIYES AWARD <br /> The ity of Eugene and W&H Pacific, Inc., of Portland, recently received <br /> an award f excellence from the Consulting Engineers Council of Oregon for <br /> the runty and taxiway extension at the Eugene Airport. <br /> In nnouncing the airport project as the winner of the Grand Award for <br /> Transpor ation Projects, judges for the Engineering Council said they were <br /> impresse with the integration of design engineering and management of the <br /> a3.Z mil ion project, which resulted in significant time and cost savings. <br /> Pro ect director Bob Staley, who accepted the award on behalf of the <br /> City of ugene Public Works Department, said careful planning allowed the <br /> runway a tension to be completed in the 1991 construction season despite a <br /> six-week rain delay at the start of the season. <br /> The Engineering Council judges also commended the project management for <br /> coordina ing the runway extension project with 16 separate organizations and <br /> seven b anches of the Federal Aviation Administration. As a result of <br /> coordin Lion efforts and excellent design engineering, the project was <br /> complet d safely and without disruption of service at the second busiest <br /> airport served by commercial airlines in Oregon. <br /> <br />
