<br /> ~~~r ' <br /> News Rele se Eugene Public Works Open House <br /> May 14, 1 92 <br /> Page 2 <br /> 'II A sa piing of the many activities includes computer games; models of the <br /> ~I Eugene Ai port and the three Ferry Street Bridge alternatives; and displays <br /> on stormw ter management, street improvement options, funding Public Works <br /> projects nd activities, the graffiti program, and on alternative modes. <br /> Videos on a variety of subjects will run thoroughout the day and informative <br /> handouts ill be available. <br /> As a ways on Public Works Day, heavy equipment is parked in the yard to <br /> climb on nd explore, and people 18 or older can operate backhoes and the <br /> Gradall. <br /> Publ c Works has added a new children's area called "In-fun-structure." <br /> Activitie will include paper airplane flying, seed planting, a coloring <br /> corner, p'pe puzzles, and an obstacle course to teach children and adults <br /> about raffic signs and signals. <br /> Stud nts from area schools will participate in a bridge-building contest <br /> in which hey will use popsicle sticks and glue to construct the bridges. <br /> Each brid a will be tested at the event to see how much weight it will <br /> support. <br /> Duri g the open house, nearly 200 high school students will learn about <br /> public wo ks professions and will get a chance to meet the people employed in <br /> those job during a career fair called Job Shop. <br /> Free pop and popcorn is available at the event, and free bicycle <br /> stamping 's offered.
