The ceremony is <br /> scheduled for Wednesday, September 16 at 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of <br /> Olive St eet and Broadway. After the ribbon cutting ceremony, participants <br /> will have a chance to climb aboard the KUGN "Bus-Bus" to be the first to ride <br /> on the newly reopened street. A number of classic cars will also take part <br /> in the commemorative ride. <br /> Mayor Jeff Miller, Ward 3 Councilor Debra Ehrman, former Downtown <br /> Commissio Chair Sue Prichard, and Betty Niven, a member of the Downtown Mall <br /> Design Pr ject Task Team, will be part of the ceremony. Lane County <br /> Commissioner Jack Roberts will also participate. The County just granted <br /> $500,000 o the City from its road fund to help pay for the $700,000 project. <br /> The balan a will be paid by the downtown urban renewal district. <br /> "Thi is a good step for the west portion of the mall," said Mayor <br /> Miller. "I'm grateful to the County for deciding to participate with us in <br /> this proj ct, and I'm delighted we're able to move forward to revitalize this <br /> portion o downtown. I believe this will be a watershed project for <br /> downtown." <br /> more <br /> <br />
