I <br /> <br /> i <br /> I~ <br /> ~~I June 3, 19 7 <br /> NEWS RELEA E <br /> Contact: Bob Staley, Project Manager, 687-5123 <br /> Kay Kronholm, Project Information Coordinator, 687-5297 <br /> FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE <br /> LANDSIDE CONSTRUCTION AT AIRPORT BEGINS <br /> Cons ruction is underway on the Mahlon Sweet Airport expansion project. <br /> Wildish Corvallis Construction Co., contractor for the $3.3 million <br /> landside ortion of the project, is now constructing a temporary long-term <br /> parking a ea that will be used this summer while work is underway on the <br /> permanent parking area. Anew road system, landscaping, signs, and rental car <br /> facilitie are also part of the landside construction which will occur over <br /> the summe and early fall. <br /> The landside construction is divided into three phases. Phase I <br /> includes installation of the 600-space, temporary long-term parking area <br /> across Gr enhill Road from the current long-term parking area. The temporary <br /> parking 1 t will be open in approximately three weeks. A shuttle bus will <br /> transport travelers from the temporary lot to the airport terminal until <br /> construction of the permanent long-term parking area is complete. Short-term <br /> parking will remain available close to the terminal. <br /> Airline passengers are encouraged to leave their vehicles at home and ask <br /> a relativ friend or local taxi/limo service to drive them to and from the <br /> airport u til the permanent parking facility is complete. <br /> Addi Tonal work scheduled during Phase I includes major excavation, sewer <br /> i <br /> line inst llation, a rental car building and car wash facility, and irrigation <br /> installat on.
