I <br /> ~ NEWS RELEASE <br /> May 6, 198 <br /> CONTACT: ob Staley, Project Manager, 687-5239 <br /> andra Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> ~I FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE <br /> BIDS OPENED FOR AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION PROJECT <br /> Wildi h Corvallis Construction, Co, Eugene, with a bid of $3,291,161, <br /> is apparen low bidder for the landside construction at Mahlon Sweet Airport <br /> in Eugene. Construction includes a car wash building, a covered walkway, a <br /> toll plaza building; site work; and 1.8 miles of roads, 23 acres of <br /> landscapin 14.7 acres of parking lots; plus the irrigation system, lighting, <br /> and some signage. <br /> Acco ding to Bob Staley, project manager, of the five construction firms <br /> who prase tad bids far the bid opening on Tuesday, May 5, Wildish submitted <br /> the appar nt low bid. Gilbert Pacific Corporation, also of Eugene, had the <br /> i <br /> next appa ant low bid of $3,361,343. "We are now in the process of verifying <br /> the figur s and the supporting documentation, and we expect to award the <br /> contract yearly next week," Staley said. Public works' engineering staff <br /> estimated $3,926,695 for the landside project. <br /> Const uction will begin June 1, 1987. Paving and roads will be completed <br /> by Octobe 15, 1987, with the remainder to be completed within 365 days of the <br /> contract ward date. Construction of the terminal will begin in early 1988, <br /> <br /> i <br /> with comp etion scheduled for late summer, 1989. <br /> Euge~e voters approved a $5.83 million bond on March 30 to complete the <br /> $18.3 mil~ion remodeling project. <br /> <br />
