NEWS RELEASE
May 5, 198
CONTACT: ike Weishar, 687-5237
andra Gleason, 687-5523
~ FOR IMMEDI TE RELEASE
BERTLES N ROAD AND ROOSEVELT BLVD. INTERSECTION CHANGED TO FOUR-WAY STOP
On Thursday, May 8, Public Works Transportation Division crews will
i I install f ur-way stop signs at the intersection of Bertleson Road and
Roosevelt 81vd. The intersection currently has two-way stop signs
for east/ est traffic on Roosevelt Blvd. According to Mike Weishar, Public
Works tra fic engineer, the intersection has had eight accidents since the
city completed the extension of Roosevelt to Bertleson in August, 1985.
i The City ill install a traffic signal light at the intersection this fall.
Weis ar explained the City has monitored the intersection since its
i
opening. "We keep a file on traffic volumes and accident rates for all
intersect ons in the city. New intersections like Roosevelt Blvd. are
monitored even more closely. We knew the intersection would eventually
require a signal, but because of the accidents, we feel we need to install
I~ I a new sig al as soon as possible. The four-way stop sign, which is a
~ temporary measure, is safer than the two-way because it slows and stops
i all lanes of traffic. We've ordered the signal and will install it as
~I
soon as w receive it, but that could take six months."
Mino traffic delays could occur as crews complete the street markings.
For more information call 687-5218.

~ ( END
i
