i <br /> Maintenanc for Culverts Shifts <br /> by Bob Nam itt <br /> Public Wor s Maintenance <br /> For man years, Public Works Maintenance crews have <br /> taken care of all city culverts that needed repair or were <br /> plugged, a en though Eugene Code states that maintenance of <br /> culverts a e the reponsibility of adjacent property owners. <br /> On October 1, the City shifted the responsibility for <br /> maintenanc back to property owners. <br /> Under t e new policy, if a culvert needs repair, Main- <br /> ~ tenance wi 1 send the property owner a written notice <br /> describing the needed maintenance, giving them 20 days to <br /> make the n cessary repairs. If the culvert is not fixed, <br /> city crews will do the work, then bill the property owner <br /> for the co t of the work. <br /> During eavy rainstorms, culverts can plug and cause <br /> damage to ublic and private property and create a hazard <br /> to the pub ic.
