<br /> PUBLIC WO S DEPARTMENT • 858 PEARL • EUGENE, OREGON 97401 <br /> NEWS RELEASE <br /> September 30, 1986 <br /> CONTACT: Bob Noble, Public Works Traffic Technician, 687-5242 <br /> Sandra Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> CITY INSTALLS TEST DIVERTER <br /> On ctober 1 and 2, City of Eugene Public Works crews will install a test <br /> traffic iverter in the north/south alley between 13th and 15th Avenues at <br /> the prop rty lines of the University of Oregon and William's Bakery. <br /> Acc rding to Bob Noble, Public Works traffic technician, the diverter <br /> will cha nel business traffic back to 13th and to Villard and away from the <br /> campus h using neighborhood. "The diverter was requested by representatives <br /> from the University of Oregon and East Campus Housing to help separate the <br /> commerci 1 activity from the University of Oregon residential area." <br /> Cit staff will study the effects of the diverter on the traffic flow <br /> for a mi imum of six months. When they have the results, they will schedule <br /> a public hearing. The results of the tests and the hearings will be forwarded <br /> to the E gene City Council, who will decide whether or not to install a <br /> permanen diverter in the area. <br /> The alley will be closed, and signs will be installed at both 13th and <br /> 15th Ave ues to alert motorists to the closure. Pedesterian and bicycle <br /> traffic ill not be affected. <br /> END <br /> <br />
