I
News Rele se 13th Avenue Reconstruction
~ Ju1y 25, 988
t Page 2
1~~ Wildi h plans to work in three-block sections, with one lane of traffic
1
4 open at al times, moving east as a block is completed. Construction will run
from 6 a.m. to 14 p.m., with weekend work as needed.
Access o businesses and to off-street business parking will be maintained
' during the roject.
The re onstruction is part of the City's preservation program to extend
as long as p ssible the life of improved streets within the City limits.
'fWhen an over ay or other maintenance technique will no longer preserve the
,facility, th City must reconstruct the roadbed. Thirteenth Avenue is now at
a point wher reconstruction is the only alternative.
Thirteen h Avenue was originally built in 1912. Except far a minor
r~econstructio between Kincaid and Alder Streets in 1963 and for regularly
scheduled mai tenance (pothole repair and overlays), 13th has had no major
wprk since it as first built. It is one of the City's businest arterials,
cArrying from ,000 to 12,000 vehicles a day between Willamette and Alder.
Since thi is a preservation project, there is no cost to property owners
for the work.
l
