Eugene city code states that the owner of the land abutting the <br /> sidewalk s responsible for maintaining the sidewalk and driveway approaches <br /> in a safe condition. This includes the removal of snow and ice. Hammitt <br /> also said property owners, not the city, are responsible for any claims <br /> resulting from a property owner's failure to remove the ice or snow from <br /> their sid walks. <br /> Sinc city maintenance crews are busy clearing and sanding city streets, <br /> Hammitt s id they do not have the resources to enforce the code at this time. <br /> He encour ged property owners to keep their sidewalks cleared to avoid the <br /> possibili y of having a claim filed against them by an injured person. <br /> END <br /> i <br /> <br />
