Task 20 -Volunteer turtle monitoring plan <br /> The SLP team will create a monitoring plan for future volunteer groups to use. The plan will include <br /> protocols for monitoring turtles. The volunteer monitoring plan will be based on the actual <br /> monitoring work designed in collaboration with City and ODFW staff and conducted by the SLP <br /> team during the 2004-OS academic year. The plan will also include copies of field data sheets and <br /> detailed explanations of all procedures. <br /> Schedule: April <br /> Product: Volunteer Monitoring Plan (3-ring binder and PDF versions) <br /> D. OTHER AMPHIBIANS MONITORING <br /> Task 21: Salamander Survey <br /> The SLP team will place piles of corrugated tin and plywood in several locations around Delta Ponds <br /> in January. The students will return in March and April and check for presence of rough skinned <br /> newts and long toed salamanders <br /> Schedule: January -April <br /> Product: Report and map <br /> Task 22: Red-legged frog egg survey <br /> The SLP team will survey ponds for red-legged frog egg masses in February. At this time egg <br /> masses reach the size of softballs and are relatively easy to find attached to vegetation near the <br /> surface of water.at the edge of ponds. The survey work will focus on azeas with decent adult red- <br /> legged frog habitat nearby. ODFW staff will help map likely areas to find egg masses. Using boats <br /> or searching from land, students will conduct weekly checks from the second week in February <br /> through the first week in March. The SLP project manager may train additional community <br /> volunteers to assist with this task. <br /> Schedule: February - mazch <br /> Product: Report and map <br /> Task 23: Tree Frog and Bull Frog Vocalization surveys <br /> SLP students will survey for presence of tree frog vocalization on 3 occasions in February. Students <br /> will survey for presence of bull frog vocalization on 3 additional occasions in April. Students will <br /> attempt to identify and map where vocalizations originate. If training from ODFW staff is available, <br /> students will also estimate frog population numbers based on vocalization intensity. <br /> Schedule: February -April <br /> Product: Report and map <br /> Task 24: Other Amphibians volunteer monitoring plan <br /> The SLP team will create a monitoring plan for future volunteer groups to use. The plan will include <br /> protocols for monitoring the above-mentioned salamander and frog species. The volunteer <br /> monitoring:plan will be based on the actual monitoring work designed in collaboration with City and <br /> ODFW staff and conducted by the SLP team during the 2004-OS academic year.
