Task 7 -Angler survey <br /> Students will distribute self-addressed stamped survey cards to Delta ponds anglers. The survey will <br /> request that anglers report what they are catching and mail the cards to the Service Learning <br /> Program. Students will collect cards and enter the data into a spreadsheet. (ODFW will produce, <br /> print, and pay for mailing costs associated with this survey.) <br /> Schedule: January -June 2005 <br /> Product: Report and spreadsheet <br /> Task 8 -Volunteer fish monitoring plan <br /> Students will create a fish monitoring plan designed for future volunteer groups to use. The plan will <br /> provide a detailed methodology, instructions for data collection, training materials, field data sheets, <br /> corresponding database (in excel or filemaker pro format), and instructions for data analysis. <br /> Schedule: May 2005 <br /> Product: Fish monitoring plan <br /> B. BIRD MONITORING <br /> Task 9 -Neo-tropical migratory bird monitoring plan <br /> The SLP coordinator will hire a technical expert to develop avolunteer neo-tropical migratory <br /> monitoring plan. The plan will provide a detailed methodology, instructions for data collection, <br /> training materials, field data sheets, corresponding database (in excel or filemaker pro format), and <br /> instructions for data analysis. <br /> Schedule: November 2004 -January 2005 <br /> Product: Neo-tropical migratory bird monitoring plan <br /> Task 10 -Data collection <br /> If time and resources permit, the technical expert will work with students and local experienced <br /> volunteers during the Spring 2005 migration to test the bird monitoring protocol and gather data on <br /> neo-tropical birds passing through Delta ponds during Spring 2005. <br /> Schedule: April -May 2005 <br /> Product: Report and database <br /> C. TURTLE MONITORING <br /> Task 11-Training with ODFW staff <br /> ODFW will provide up to eight traps, choose appropriate locations for traps, and train students to <br /> work with traps and turtles. Students will be trained by ODFW staffto determine turtle species and <br /> sex, measure carapace length, weigh turtles, evaluate them for damage from predators and vehicles, <br /> paint a colorful marker on each carapace, and safely release turtles back in the ponds. <br /> Schedule: March -April 2005 <br /> <br /> Task 12 -Turtle hatchling survey <br /> ODFW will train students to survey for turtle hatchlings. SLP students will survey small shallow <br /> ponds (near radio tower) and other areas identified by ODFW for turtle hatchlings to help determine <br /> if any hatchlings survived from the previous year. <br /> Schedule: April <br /> Product: Report <br /> <br />
