Using core data they hope to prepare a coarse map of cover which will provide us with information <br /> regarding the perimeter of the landfill and cover depth. This information will be useful in planning our habitat <br /> restoration efforts. <br /> Stream"I cam <br /> • December 8th: The Rachel Carson Program spent their bi-monthly morning with Stream <br /> Team clearing blackberries along the Amazon Channel at 33rd street. KVAL stopped, did <br /> interviews and had a segment on the nightly news. <br /> December 15th: The Northwest Youth Corps outdoor school spent a morning with Stream Team <br /> at Delta Ponds learning about the project there. They also took hardwood cuttings which were <br /> then planted into beds at the Native Plant Nursery. This vegetation will be ready for planting <br /> back out at Delta Ponds after construction. <br /> NR Maintenance Crew <br /> • NRM staff completed a temporary repair of a headcut that was threatening a rare plant population at the <br /> Speedway wetland site in West Eugene. The temporary repair is intended to keep the headcut from progressing <br /> and channel banks from eroding into Willow Creek. Sand bags were used to create a dam and plastic flex pipe <br /> now routes seasonal water through the headcut and into the creek. <br /> • A failing switchback on the Ridgeline Trail South of the 52nd and Willamette Street trailhead is being repaired by <br /> NRM staff. Staff are installing timbers at the switchback to improve the trail's cross slope and stabilize the <br /> switchback. The repair should be completed by Christmas. <br /> • NRM staff assisted FOG members in completing the WEW winter site assessment field visits. <br /> • NRM staff spent 144 hours assisting the Public Works Maintenance Leaf Pickup Program over the last two weeks. <br /> • A large cottonwood tree that had fallen across the bike path in the Whilamut Natural Area was removed by NRM <br /> staff. <br /> • Two trees that had fallen in Tugman Park were removed by NRM staff. <br /> • The Checkermallow access entrance sign was installed by NRM staff. Sensitive natural area signs and a park <br /> rules sign were also installed at the new parking area by staff. <br /> • Cone racks for two NRM program vehicles were built and installed by NRM staff. <br /> • NRM staff completed a hazard inspection on the Ridgeline Trail. Staff found 5 trees across the trail and removed <br /> 1 <br />
