Voluntary Campaign Finance Program
The City Recorder's Office is receiving a growing number of inquiries about the deadline and process for filing as a council
or mayoral candidate in the May 2004 Primary Election. Several citizens recently picked up election packets and indicated
interest in running.
A new feature being added to the information packets is a pledge form to be signed by candidates wishing to participate in
the voluntary campaign finance program enacted by Council Resolution No. 4709 in May 2002. A fact sheet about the
program as well as the pledge form will soon be available on the City Recorder's web page at
http://www.ci.eugene.or.us/cityreco/Elections/ For more information, contact Mary Feldman at 682-8353.
Workshop Opens Dialog on Stewardship, Ecosystem Repair and Education
Educators, policy makers, restoration practitioners, natural resource managers, r,,E
urban and park planners, students, community organizers, and others interested in
•000°.1 4. 111)
building a stronger community and protecting the natural environment in urban _
areas, especially in the Willamette Valley, are invited to participate in "Mending
Natural Systems in our Cities." On Friday, September 26, EWEB will relocate a water service station that has been in place for a
number of years at 31st Avenue and Hilyard Street.
Large tank trucks and personal vehicles with tanks in trailers have been purchasing water at this station. Some of the
vehicles that park at the water service station are large enough to block the path's intersection with 31st Avenue. At other
times, the vehicles block the"vision clear zone" for path users and motorists approaching the intersection of the path and
street.
When the Public Works Department brought these concerns to EWEB it was learned that the water station was aging and
EWEB had plans to replace it. The two agencies worked out an agreement for EWEB to construct a replacement facility
on 1st Avenue near Bertelsen Road. Signs have been posted informing patrons that the facility in southeast Eugene will
close Friday and directing users to new facility at 1st and Bertelsen. For more information, contact Alternative Modes
Coordinator Diane Bishop at 682-5471.
THIS WEEK
NEXT WEEK
09/29 M 5:30pm All Special Council Meeting Council Chamber *`
09/30 T 4:00pm JT Mayor's One-on-One Council Chamber
EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 2
September 26,2003
