MEMORANDUM
Date: October 4, 1993
From: Bob Hammitt
To: Barbara Keller and Randy MacDonald
Subject: DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS ANNUAL INSPECTION
I just received our written inspection report for the Amazon Channel that was
undertaken last August. I thought you might be interested in reviewing a
copy.
I also wanted to let you know that we have received several complaints from
property owners regarding the condition of the Amazon Channel between East and
West Amazon Drives. Generally, the complaints are of concern about the heavy
vegetation growth and the possibility of heavy rain storms creating flooding.
Several of these people were property owners in the area during the early
1980's when the Amazon Channel flowed over its banks and into neighboring
streets and properties. The latest complaint comes from a property owner that
is concerned about the beaver dam that is built in the Amazon Channel at
approximately 34th Avenue. I have asked Jack Long to contact Jeff Krueger to
determine if he can remove the beaver dam as part of the volunteer effort that
is planned for this weekend. The beaver will likely rebuild as long as there
is a substantial amount of woody vegetation along the channel . If the
volunteers cannot get the dam, I will have the Gradall remove it. I will
instruct them only to remove what is necessary to restore flow. The woody
vegetation will need attention by next summer.
Hope this memo is helpful in keeping you posted.
Attachments
cc: Gene Shutt
Jack Long
Dave Ritter
Deborah Evans
