HAMMITT Bob
From: LYLE Les A
To: NATHANSON Nancy L; Nathanson, Nancy (UO)
Cc: NORRIS Linda H; HAMMITT Bob; CHILDS Jan W; JOHNSON Jim R; ANDERSEN
Chris F; DESANTIS Bud L; MILLS Gale L; LANKSTON Jeff; BISHOP Diane L;
REINHARD Dave N
Subject: FW: Amazon Creek enhancements and park/open space
Date: Monday, March 20, 1995 8:19AM
Nancy, thanks for the note. No, it isn't too late for your input. We have had both internal as well as external
input sessions but we are not so far along that we can't accept more. During our drop-in session a couple of
months ago, we got a lot of positive feedback and support for the project. A number of innovative ideas like
your have been suggested. Both those sessions and the process we used to review options for the lower
Amazon Project (Corp restoration project) are providing valuable information for the two projects. As you recall
the ISTEA project begins at Bailey Hill and ends at Spectra Physics. The Corp project begins on the north side
of the SP tracks and ends near Royal and Greenhill. Both projects will accomplish multiple goals as outlined in
CSWMP , West Eugene Wetland plan, bike master plan, and park plan.
It sounds like you have multiple goals for the Amazon Creek. I'll be glad to set up a meeting with you and
division staff to brief you on our progress, options we are presently considering, and how we might include your
proposals. Do you have any particular time you'd prefer to meet? Would you like anyone else on the Council to
attend? I'm thinking that Councilor Farr might be interested due to the lower Amazon project proximity to both
wards. How about Councilor Keller given her interest in the upper Amazon? Let me know what you would like
and we will put it together. Thanks Les L
From: DESANTIS Bud L
To: LYLE Les A
Cc: MILLS Gale L; LANKSTON Jeff
Subject: FW: Amazon Creek enhancements and park/open space
Date: Monday, March 20, 1995 7:56AM
From: NATHANSON Nancy L
To: DESANTIS Bud L
Cc: CHILDS Jan W; JOHNSON Jim R; ANDERSEN Chris F; BISHOP Diane L
Subject: Amazon Creek enhancements and park/open space
• Date: Sunday, March 19, 1995 12:01 PM
Bud,
We haven't talked together recently about my long-standing interest in the Amazon Creek improvements. I'm
writing you now because I see your name (and Diane's) in neighborhood newsletters.
As far back as four years ago I've been telling people my ideas for addressing west Eugene's need for more
parks and open space in concert with the proposed Amazon enhancements. Although I've asked several times
to be involved in planning from the earliest point possible, I'm concerned that my interest and ideas have fallen
through the cracks. As a City Council member, my focus is usually divided among a half dozen or more urgent
and long-term.issues, so I'm not asking to be part of a hands-on work group, for example. But I do have some
big-picture anr3'bticy ideas that should be addressed. I don't want to throw this at you "cold", and understand
that you'll probably want to get a better picture of what's behind this communication. I'll take a few minutes to
provide some info ...
The Amazon Canal corridor is providing less than it could in the way of recreation or outdoor opportunities and
Page 1
