I haven't contacted Mylie Carter because I lack an
address and phone number for her. Can you supply that information so I can make contact?
The status on this park, FYI, is that yesterday I started some irrigation system planning. It is our plan to
have a design done in time to bid and become operational by the end of June, which we believe is the
earliest that lack of water would contribute to further decline of existing trees. The planning for tree
replacements can happen almost anytime, but the actual planting we would like to do in the late fall when
the best selection, best prices, and best chances for survival prevail. The Urban Forester and I invite input
from any "stakeholders" in the park concerning varieties of trees that are desired.
--John
From: SWANSON GRIBSKOV Laurie
To: JENNINGS Carrie A
Cc: ETTER John F
Subject: RE: Washburn Park
Date: Wednesday, January 17, 1996 11:40AM
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the update. Yes, I think it would be a good idea
for John to contact Mylie and introduce himself. As a
thought, he might also want to do it in writing and cc me so
that Mylie is reminded that the City has been responsive and
who to call, etc. That way if the Fairmount Neighbors say
things are not happening, someone can send folks the copy of
the correspondence and "game plan".
Good Luck to John - and please keep me posted.
Laurie
From: JENNINGS Carrie A
To: SWANSON GRIBSKOV Laurie
Cc: ETTER John F
Subject: RE: Washburn Park
Date: Tuesday, January 09, 1996 8:59AM
FROM: Bob Hammitt
Mylie expressed the same concern to me when I spoke with her
about getting the irrigation system replaced. I told her we
would likely look at tree replacement as part of the design
project. Our initial focus will be to simply get the
irrigation replaced so we do not lose any more trees. It is
likely that tree replacement would not be done until next
fall, as that is the best time for planting with a good chance
of survival. I explained to Mylie that there are a number of
factors to consider; such as, which trees might best survive
in those soil conditions, and whether or not we replace some
of the dead trees as they were already overcrowded. I also
told her that once we completed a draft design and began to
think about some decisions regarding trees, we would contact
her for some specific feedback.
