we will also be looking at some other improvements/changes in
the park. Accomplishing them is dependant upon whether or not
we can afford them. For example, we are considering removing
the old concrete pool that is no longer usable rather than
designing the irrigation system around it.
John Etter will be our lead design person on this project.
Let me know if you would like me or John to contact Mylie
again to reassure her that we will let her look at our draft
design of tree replacement.
From: SWANSON GRIBSKOV Laurie
To: JENNINGS Carrie A
Subject: RE: Washburn Park
Date: Friday, January 05, 1996 12:36PM
Hi Bob - Happy New Year.
Mylie Carter called me this week and is appreciative about the
watering in the future, but now has concerns about the choice
of trees! So can you give me a quick update on status and who
I should follow up with etc.
Hope you had a good holiday. You can tell I'm just now
thinking about what I will have to do for Council in 1996.
Thanks for your help.
Laurie
From: JENNINGS Carrie A
To: *Councilor Swanson Gribskov
Cc: DILLER Della M
Subject: Washburn Park
Date: Wednesday, November 22, 1995 5:05PM
FROM: Bob Hammitt
I apologize for not getting back to you regarding the funding
plan for the irrigation system replacement at Washburn Park.
I have been totally consumed by fire recovery.
As you probably recall, the estimate was $55,000 for
irrigation system replacement at Washburn Park. The tentative
plan is to give this project a high priority due to the urban
forester's assessment that additional unique trees may be lost
due to the lack of irrigation. Installing irrigation will not
save those trees already dead, and probably not those already
showing significant stress.
Our goal is to have irrigation installed before the 1996 dry
season. In order to fund the project we will have to postpone
some other funded projects such as, the Skinners Butte Rd
overlay project, and some drainage projects. We also plan to
use the money ($16,000) recovered from insurance when the
Spencer Butte restroom burned a couple of years ago. This
occurred during the Eugene Decisions process and reduction in
park services. Since the restroom was at a remote location,
it was vandalized often and was a high maintenance item.
I have not had a chance to discuss this plan with Chris yet,
so it is only a plan at this time. I hope it provides you
with the info you need. I will likely be working most of
Page 2
