Based on that input, and a tour of the
creek area earlier this week by Gene Shutt and myself, I have established the following plan.
Much of the creek cross section is hidden by tall grass, and in a few areas, other overgrowth such as
blackberries. This makes it very difficult to inspect the creek channel for any blockages or narrow spots
that might cause flooding to occur during heavy rains. When the area is dry enough (probably near August
1st) Tim Rhay will rough mow the banks and the other safely accessible points in the channel. Dick
Morgan will then contract with the Lane County Sheriff's work crew or the Lane County Juvenile Services
work crew to perform removal of vegetation within the creek channel not accessible to the rough mower.
Thus, the creek bottom can be inspected and the crew will also be instructed to hand remove any
obstructions or blockages located. This will allow us to make visual inspections of the creek during the
next rainy season to determine the appropriate solution and repairs needed to contain the water within the
creek bed.
The goal of this project is to minimize the amount of work we perform with mechanical equipment in order
to preserve the natural setting as much as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact me.
Page 1
