All park restrooms are now open during regular park hours (6 a.m. to 11
p.m.), and all drinking fountains have been turned on. In addition, water has been turned on at
all the community gardens as gardeners begin to cultivate their plots, and all park irrigation
systems are being assessed and repaired if necessary, in anticipation of the day it finally stops
raining and the turf begins to dry out. Finally, a new and larger flag will wave at the top of
Skinner Butte by mid-May.
During the busy season, two Park Amenities staff will service riverfront parks from 3 to
11:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. The swing shift staff are available to clean and lock park
restrooms when the parks close and provide after-hours public service for park rentals and
facility maintenance. This expanded coverage was piloted last year and proved to be very
effective at reducing illegal activity in the parks, such as vandalism, graffiti and illegal camping.
For more information about the maintenance of park facilities, call 682-4904. For more
information about irrigation systems or drinking fountains in parks, call 682-4826.
###
