Under the agreement, which will take effect in
approximately two weeks, the closest ambulance -- regardless of jurisdiction -will be dispatched to all calls involving a
serious medical need. These include the two most critical levels of call determinates, known under the Medical Priority
"Nspatch System by the designators"delta"and "echo". In addition, work will be done between Eugene and Springfield to
,.elude closest fire engine response for fires and emergency medical incidents.
The discussions also led the Eugene Fire & EMS Department to review its current placement of ambulances within the
city. From the analysis, three adjustments have been made to enhance ambulance service to the community. A single-
role ambulance will be redeployed from the Valley River Station to the Sheldon Station from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
each day, while a 24-hour, dual-role medic unit will remain at the Valley River Station. Another single-role ambulance
will be deployed as needed around the Eugene service area during daytime hours. In addition, the dual-role ambulance
based at the South Hills Station will now respond from the Downtown Station between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day. In
combination, these adjustments take advantage of the increased flexibility in the City's enhanced EMS system to provide
better overall coverage citywide, and also respond to the daily increase in population downtown during business hours.
For more information, please contact Fire & EMS Chief Tom Tallon at 682-7105.
New Information on Website for Facilities Division
The Facility Management Division has gone live with a new and
improved web presence on the City's internet site with information that
has not previously been available to the public.
