Picado, Parks and Open Space Public Information Specialist, 682-4814 or <br /> 682-4800, therese.m.picado@ci.eugene.or.us <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> HELP PLANT NATIVE PLANTS AT THE NEW NATIVE PLANT GARDEN IN <br /> HENDRICKS PARK THIS SATURDAY <br /> The City of Eugene and the Friends of Hendricks Park are sponsoring a work party to <br /> plant native plants in the new Native Plant Garden at Hendricks Park this Saturday, December <br /> 7, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interested volunteers should meet at the F.M. Wilkins Shelter in <br /> Hendricks Park at 2200 Summit Avenue. Sword ferns and a few other native plants will be <br /> planted in the garden which is located in the area around the shelter and was dedicated last <br /> May. <br /> Initial planting began last spring. The Native Plant Garden will be constructed over <br /> several years and will include accessible trials and a variety of the area's local native plants <br /> arranged in garden beds and natural areas for educational purposes as well as a garden <br /> attraction. <br /> Volunteers are instructed to wear waterproof clothes and sturdy shoes or boots. Some <br /> equipment, such as gloves, tools and rain gear, will be available for use. For more information, <br /> call 682-5324. <br /> ### <br />
