The City will encourage the planting and retention of healthy, well -sited trees that do <br /> not compromise the defensible space around buildings and other structures on <br /> developed residential, commercial, and industrial sites. <br /> TREES ON PRIVATE PROPERTY <br /> 12. Except where adopted plans, special studies, and regulations apply, the City will <br /> encourage the retention and the planting of healthy, well -sited trees that do not <br /> compromise the defensible space around buildings and other structures in connection <br /> with initial and subsequent residential, commercial, and industrial development. This <br /> policy and subsequent proposed actions will not negate current regulations associated <br /> with the development or building approval process City Council will monitor the <br /> results in two years. <br /> 13. The City will require an approved street -tree plan in developments involving the <br /> creation of streets. Assure that the party obtaining the approval provides for planting <br /> the street trees, according to the approved plan, as each lot or area is developed <br /> 14. The City will structure tree plan review and approval to work within existing <br /> development processing time frames for subdivision, planned unit development, and <br /> development permit approval. Criteria and information for approval will be available <br /> with all other permit information. <br /> HERITAGE TREES <br /> 15. The City will retain heritage trees on street rights -of -way, in parks, and on other City <br /> property, except when otherwise necessary for the public health, safety, or welfare. <br /> 16. The City will develop and distribute information on the special characteristics of <br /> heritage trees. <br /> 17. The City will encourage retaining heritage trees on private property, except when <br /> otherwise necessary for the public health, safety, or welfare. Monitor results after two <br /> years. Revisit use of the word "require" at that time <br /> EDUCATION <br /> 18. The City will provide and distribute information to interested citizens, property owners, <br /> and development community on proper tree selection relative to climate, solar aspect, <br /> soils, potential fire hazard, water regimen, and on proper tree siting and maintenance <br />
