.
4. Strategies /Objectives. Please look at the strategies proposed for the coming two to three
fiscal years. Do you agree these are appropriate strategies for this service?
Yes _4_ No Maybe
Comments and suggested changes:
I would consider the street tree inventory and data entry as an important hard data information tool
in the budget process. Many people in my neighborhood (and most likely others) might want to be
a part of a volunteer program (with adequate training as to process, identity and criteria of course)
This would gain for people greater neighborhood familiarity and be quite helpful in the bargain.
You left out "customer focused service" (Is it Eugene citizens or City Government).
How about "on the job training, mentor - then set up certified parameters for approval ($for
training will be hard to find)
- Strategy 2 (should be sub point 3 - develop policy & procedure manual). A computer inventory is
nice, but is only frosting on the case.
Strategy is good.
• How many crew members are ISA certified today? Apparently the number is small, therefore
training classes are desirable.
• 1 question the desirability of 25% tree inventory each year. How many man - hours /year would
that require?
5. Other Sections. Do you have any other comments regarding the service profile?
Comments and suggested changes:
Aging personnel: Is there an OSHA reg. That says a 65 year old person can NOT climb trees. If
done in a safe approach age should not make a difference! If you do subcontract work out... then
your budget requires a people reduction! This statement could shoot you in the foot...going
forward.
I found it difficult to follow the System Map, perhaps because it represents the complexity of your
operations.
No mention of the "Historical Tree Document" in the Historic Perspective section.
Impressed by the number of trees in this city.
3
