It was evening and we were sitting in
the living room with our windows open. Our living room is on the Sheldon Community side of the
house. It became very difficult to hear our friend. Loud music was coming from the direction of the out
door tennis courts located about 200 feet from our house. Two teen age boys were playing tennis. They
had turned their boom box volume up on high.
I wanted to get their attention to get them to turn the volume down. I obtained a 16 pound postmall from
my garage and placed it over my shoulder Alle OOP fashion. I walked into the tennis court and headed
directly toward the boom box. The two teen ago boys (about age 17) stopped playing and looked first at
me and then at the boom box. One of the boys run to the boom box and shut it of He said to me, 'you
didn't ask me to turn it down." I replied, "you didn't ask me if you could turn it up." I told them, " you
have done what I wanted you to do." I then left the court. They did turn the boom box on again but at a
noise level that was tolerable. 1 know this was a damatic act that was both humorous and effective. I
would never do it again for fear for my life.
Can you imagine what the noise volume will be when you get 1000 teen agers and parents at a football
game? Whose attention can we get to request the noise be reduced. Do you think if we could make a
request to have less noise it would do any good? We would soon be known as the old grouches that live
next door to the new $3.5 million dollar athletic field.
Things to consider:
1. Parking - Where will 1000 people park for first phase and 2000 people for the second phase ?.
2. Environmental changes:
A. Wetlands designation in vicinity of the drainage ditch you intend to fill.
B. Noise Mitigation
C. Vision Mitigation
D. Light Mitigation
E. Traffic Mitigation
F. Livability Mitigation
G. Increased Traffic on Jeppesen Acres Rd.
No street parking west of Providence
No sidewalks west of 2250 Jeppesen Acres Road
Little to no lighting west of Providence intersection
The curve just west of Providence is a blind curve that has no lighting.
Traffic on Jeppesen Acres Road west of Providence frequently travels at 65 MPH.
There are two 25 MPH Speed Signs on Jeppescn Acres Road. They are located
within 100 feet of the intersections of Coburg Road and Glilham Road. After you
enter Jeppesen Acres Road and check for road hazards you are abreast or past the
. signs. There should be signs indicating School Children present with posted speeds
accordingly.
3. Traffic Calming:
Two years ago residents on Jeppescn Acres Road petitioned Jim Torrey to install speed control
devices and install lighting in the curve (at minimum). I understand David Duke informed John
Fisher and Sister that nothing would be done untill the new Fire Station is in use; the new Fire
Station was activated in October 1998. We have heard nothing about installing lighting or speed
control devises.
4. Home devaluation:
Our homes will be devalued due of the close proximity of the Athletic Fields.
