as the stair risers are less than or equal to 7- inches in height as detailed in equation 4 -1,
OSSC section 1004.3.2.3.1.
Does section 1008.5.5 take precedence for the cross aisle width in bleachers? This would allow a
cross aisle of a minimum of 54 inches or the "greatest of the minimum required widths as
determined by 1004.3.2" which would still be 9 feet wide.
OSSC section 1008.5.5 does take precedence for the cross aisle width, however the language
"...of the minimum required widths as specified in section 1004.3.2..." includes section
1004.3.2.3.1 which does require that cross aisle width not be Tess than the combined
converging aisle widths. The cross aisle is required to be the combined total of the aisles
served.
Are there other code provisions or exceptions to allow for narrower aisles and cross aisle?
No, there are no other provisions /exceptions to allow such a request. For more information re
bleachers please contact Eric Swanstrom, Code Analyst, at 682 - 5229.
Observation Booth
What are the building code requirements for providing access to this area for people with
disabilities?
The observation booth must be fully accessible. This includes an accessible stair, entrance,
and Area of Rescue Assistance. The Area of Rescue Assistance can be the observation
booth itself and due to the size would not be required to be separated from other portions of
the observation booth. There remains the requirement for the 2 -way communication system as
outlined in OSSC section 1107.2.4. For more information please contact Eric Swanstrom, Code
Analyst, at 682 -5229.
Field Lighting
Is it going to be necessary to illuminate the means of egress as provided in section 1003.2.10? If
so, will the illumination need to be from an emergency system?
Local code requires that no direct glare be perceptible beyond the property of origin
(EC 9.654). Per OSSC section 1003.2.9, the means of egress will need to be illuminated and
will require to have emergency backup. Keep in mind that the means of egress must continue
to the public right -of -way or to an approved safe dispersal area as outlined in OSSC section
1006 and 1008. For more information please contact Eric Swanstrom, Code Analyst, at 682 - 5229.
Public Restrooms
Is this an approved solution if permanent public restrooms are not constructed until a later date?
Portable toilets will not be an approved solution. OSSC Appendix 2905 exception 2 allows
restroom facilities to be located in adjacent buildings on the same site except in the case of a
restaurant, dining establishment or where patrons have paid a fee for attendance and will
remain in the building for an extended period of time. The proposed facilities fall in the last
category of this exception and therefore must have restroom facilities included when
constructed. For more information please contact Eric Swanstrom, Code Analyst, at 682 -5229.
