sk Pal
EU GENE Mayor's Office
Jim Torrey
City of Eugene
MEMORANDUM Eugene, Pearl Street, Room 105
Eugg ene, Oregon 97401 -2793
(541) 682 -5010
(541) 682 -5414 FAX
(541) 682 -5045 TTY
Date: November 20, 2000
To: Jim Johnson, Les Lie, Angel Jones, Jim Hill, Steve Swanson, Jeff Lankston
From: Jim Torrey ' I
Subject: Skate Parks
Since the establishment of the skate parks, I have received correspondence from concerned parents,
school districts and churches on the illegal activity they seem to attract. Attached, please find a copy of
a recent e-mail from a concerned parent.
In response to these concerns, I am asking if there is something we can do to show more police
presence near the skate parks. Is it possible to increase the number of police drive by's near the parks
or have the officers fill out police reports (which are unrelated to the skate parks) in the parking lot
across from the skate parks, or drive through the church parking lots to view the parks?
Any ideas you may have to increase awareness that we are out there for the security of our kids and to
prevent the skate parks from becoming dwelling places for illegal activity would be appreciated.
