11/14/00 TUE 08:32 FAX 541 682 4882 CITY EUG PWMAINT Z 003
1
• Skaters began using our outside water spigots for drinking and bathing and leaving the
water ruining, sometimes overnight, flooding the area. In an attempt to prevent this
we removed the handles, but they began using pliers to turn them on, open leaving the
• wager running again. Now we have attached a short hose and posted a sign inviting
•
them to use the water but to please tum it off when {'niched. The skaters use this
about 6 times per hour all day and night, even during our Sunday wrxehip services.
•
!Recently, one d the water faucet handles was skean, found later in one of the Cal
Young student's possession.
• • The skaters regularly come into the building$, often with roller blades on their feet,
during crunch services and weekly office hours to use the bathrooms end drink from
and bathe in the sinks.
• Every day we have to ask kids to not skate all through the grounds, jumping off curbs
• outside our office windows, grinding the garden railroad ties, etc This happens at all
times of the day and night, not just while school is out. They ottaritiell os.they want to
skate on our proparty because the skate park is too crowded. This problem has not
lessened with the opening of the Churchill skate park. There is a constant sb eem of
skaters hanging aroundthe property and the paddnQ lots day and night, often well past
• midnight.
• One of our handicap parking signs was ripped out of the ground and stolen. The sign
was discovered behind the skate perk the next week and r&eved by the Cal Young
custodian.
• Most recently, police were called because one akatar attacked another are with a steel
pipe. The skaters were both perked h our parking lot
As I have already stated, we are going to do everything we can to embrace the new sports
complex. We want to love and help the people who use it However, I feel our church has
been presumed upon by those In the piennirg and development of this sports complex
project. We were represented at the community discussion meetings prior to construction,
and we expressed our concerts about parking, vandalism, and the impact on our property.
No one since that time, from either the city or 4J, has communicated with us except to call
and ask to use our parking lot for the `Grand Operting". I am disappointed in the way
communication and convnunity relations have been handled.
Thank you for allowing me an audience to voice my concerns through this letter. I tea not
,_ want to come across as just another 'complainer'. I wilt be glad to talk with you about
possible solutions regarding the impact of the skate park co our property. Please' know
that Harvest Community Church will continue to do all we can to be a posttive influence
and make our community a better place to live. I look forward to the opportunity to meat
---with you In the near future and work on creating a healthy rolatiortshlp to deal with issues
Involving the sports oomplex, as well as any other events in our community.
Sincerely .
Andy rtin
Pastor, Harvest Community Church
