We remain committed to the
management of the area as described in conservation agreement. Our plans specific to your
current interest at this point include:
1. Examining the area immediately around the bench that was installed last spring to determine
if any Lomatium are near enough to be damaged by foot traffic associated with accessing the
bench.
2. We will work toward creating new Lomatium habitat in the area where a nearby mound was
removed several years ago. It is our opinion that such an area could be habitat for 500 - 1000
plants if the higher densities found elsewhere in the park can be replicated here. We judge this
action to fall under the first of the eight City responsibilities listed in the Agreement, and to be in
the spirit of working toward a downlisting of the plant..
3. We support your proposed efforts to work with School District 4 -J on the conflict with the
plants on their property near 19t Avenue. Feel free to call us if you or 4 -J staff think our input
could contribute to a resolution of the problem at that site.
We look forward to resurveying the area next year and expect to contract with NPSO members
for that work.
Sincerely,
John Etter, Parks Planning
Public Works Maintenance
cc: 4ohnny Medlin, Maintenance Planning Manager
Tim Rhay, Parks Maintenance Manager (AIC)
Laura Todd, U.S. Fish and Wildlife (Portland)
Tom Kaye, Oregon Dept. of Agriculture
