* * DRAFT * * 7 <br /> B. THE EUGENE SCHOOL DISTRICT 4J SHALL: <br /> 1. Protect the plant colony south of 18th and Pearl (Figure 1) by: <br /> a. Allowing erection of metal fence posts and flagging around <br /> the colony (approximately 20 x 50 -foot area); <br /> b. Refrain from parking vehicles on the flagged area; <br /> c. Agreeing to delay mowing of the area until after seeds have <br /> matured, usually after June 15, and/or soils are dry (i.e., <br /> mowing equipment will not leave ruts), whichever is later; <br /> and <br /> d. Discuss more permanent barriers if the posts and flagging <br /> do not successfully exclude vehicles. <br /> 2. Use the existing plant colony to educate South Eugene High <br /> School students about the following concepts: <br /> a. The threats to and conservation of endangered native <br /> species; <br /> b. Population dynamics of the plant colony; <br /> c. Population monitoring methods; and <br /> d. Identification of native and exotic plants that may occur in <br /> the conservation area. <br /> 3. Support an annual student project to cooperatively write a <br /> monitoring report each spring and provide copies to the Service, <br /> NPSO, and ODA. <br /> C. THE NATIVE PLANT SOCIETY OF OREGON SHALL: <br /> 1. Provide a volunteer instructor to South Eugene High School for <br /> one week during peak flowering period for the Bradshaw's <br /> lomatium, culminating in an annual field survey. <br /> 2. Provide instruction and instructional materials to South Eugene <br /> High School to meet the following educational objective: <br /> a. Students will achieve an understanding of the importance <br /> of native ecosystems and their components; <br /> b. Students will understand the processes and actions that <br /> affect rare native plants; <br /> c. Students will identify Bradshaw's lomatium and other <br /> native and exotic plants; <br /> d. Students will measure and compute the population <br /> dynamics on wet prairie remnants within the conservation <br /> area; and <br />
