David mentioned that Howie, Sally, and David did a walk through the
WNA with Rep. Nancy Nathanson and her husband. They looked at points
of interest, including the Autzen Path "choke point." The letter from the
CPC supporting HB 3224 was a result of the walk. Howie asked that the
letter be attached to the meeting minutes.
I -5 Update David explained that the ODOT CAG (Community Advisory
Group) meeting, scheduled for yesterday, had been canceled. He explained
that some CAG members expressed disagreement with the cancellation, as
the group often does not have time to complete discussions on important
matters.
Charlotte stated that both the CAG and the Project Design Team (PDT)
voted to have only one pair of piers in the main channel of the river. There
could be a second pair near the south side of the river. Charlotte also
reported that an ODOT design engineer told her that there is money to
straighten out the bike path in the WNA where the path passes beneath I -5
adjacent to the canoe canal.
6. Subcommittee reports
Signage. Sully Nunn reported.
The subcommittee met with Justin Grishkin on June 15 in the WNA to
discuss the kiosk location near the Knickerbocker Bridge. Charles, Vicky,
David, Sally, and Charlotte attended. The committee eliminated the vernal
pool option. In the end, they decided upon the NNE end of the bridge.
A concern is not to have the kiosk block the site line of cyclists coming
off the bridge going north. They must be able to see cyclists coming from
Springfield heading west.
There was discussion of gravel vs. a concrete pad. The committee said
that if it had to be concrete, it would be good to have it textured and
perhaps with some coloring.
Charlotte added that the Signage Subcommittee wanted signs on the
bottom of all panels that say dogs must remain on- leash. She added that
there is room on all panels for the additional signs.
Howie asked if these agreements should be put in writing. Carolyn
said that POS is O.K. with the current understanding.
Lauri added that the target construction date is September 2007.
Outreach Charlotte Behm reported.
The Outreach subcommittee has met three times concerning the
EVBMX situation. The first time they met to assemble a list of concerns and
recommendations prior to a meeting with Kevin Finney, head of
maintenance for Eugene POS.
