Resignation Elliot McIntire has resigned from the CPC after accepting a
board position with his church, which has board meetings at the same time
as CPC quarterly meetings.
Weed Watcher Howie asked Charlene to inform the CPC about the
invasive weed training classes she attended.
Weed Watcher Workshop -- Charlene showed materials that she brought for
CPC Staff, Howie, and the Habitat Subcommittee — Weed Watcher Resource
Guide, Detection Report, and a list of plants that are of the most concern for
local and nearby areas. Charlene reported that the idea is to identify weeds
that have not yet become thoroughly established. If we don't know how to
proceed when we find something, report it to the park staff; duplicate
reports are preferable to no reporting.
David asked how much fieldwork was in the workshops. Charlene
responded that they had specimens and a short tour. They did point out
false brome.
Charlene would like the CPC to be more proactive and be on the
lookout for these invasive weeds. She suggested a training session for the
CPC.
Subcommittees Howie passed around a list of members of CPC
subcommittee assignments.
House Bill 3224 Howie circulated a copy of the CPC letter of support.
Howie, Sally, and David worked on the letter with input from the majority
of the CPC members [12 members participated and supported it]. Sally
made a beautiful CPC letterhead.
Carolyn reported that HB 3224 passed. She has heard by word of
mouth that it is funded at the $500,000 level. Half will go for security; the
other half will be spent in projects along the riverfront. Eugene POS got a
call from Oregon State Parks who state the money is coming through them.
We don't need to compete for it, but probably do need to provide matching
funds. The City of Eugene needs to figure out who gets dollars. There is an
original list that needs to be prioritized quickly. Included in the list are
signage, cleanup, lighting, brail amenities, and general restoration work.
Charlotte asked how the CPC can become involved in that
prioritizing? Carolyn responded that they need to get a baseline first.
Howie added that he saw Rep. Nancy Nathanson (sponsor of HB 3224)
in a bookstore on the morning of July 12. She told him that the bill had
passed and they got most of what they asked for. Howie reasserted that the
CPC wants to be involved. He asked what aspects of the WNA goals might
be possible to achieve, for example, new display signs, etc.
