Regarding the kiosk bases, Mr. Sonnichsen recalled that he had suggested that textured concrete
would be appropriate so that it looked like stone.
Mr. Bonnett asked if the Park Foundation structures would have any similarity to the kiosks that
the group had worked on the interpretive signs for. Mr. Richardson replied that The Riverloop
signs were simple square posts about 3' high, but that colors may be similar.
Mr. Bonnett wondered if the CPC needed to discuss this or if the signs would be similar in a way
that called attention to the fact they were part of the Whilamut Natural Area signage. He felt the
CPC was being left out of the loop as far as the implementation of the installation of the signage.
Ms. Behm wanted the signage subcommittee to work on it. Mr. Richardson agreed to involve
them.
Mr. Bonnett averred that both the Habitat and Signage Subcommittees should have involvement
in determining and recommending the priorities for the expenditure of funding from the
legislature that pertained to the Whilamut Natural Area. He asked Mr. Richardson to convey this
to the executive management.
Ms. Larison said the Habitat Subcommittee people had tried to figure out what plan there was for
wildlife and people in the next year. Mr. Richardson offered to find out.
Mr. Biggs requested information regarding the maintenance agreement along the Autzen corridor
from the footbridge to the bicycle bridge.
b. Willamalane
Ms. French reported that the Willamalane board of directors reappointed Ms. Jones to the CPC at
their meeting held the previous evening. She welcomed Ms. Jones into her second term.
Ms. French stated that someone had driven into a bollard and snapped it off. She said staff was in
the process of getting another one made. She thanked Ms. Behm for bringing it to their attention.
Ms. French related that she had been working on an Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board
(OWEB) grant. She said it appeared that the application had made it through two of the three
levels of the approval process. She predicted they would receive the grant, which was slated to
be used for invasive species removal and habitat restoration along a portion of the canal that was
currently overrun with blackberries. She noted that the work was planned for the winter months.
Ms. French said a Willamette Valley birding trail was being put together. She related that she
had nominated Eastgate Woodlands, which was well known already for its bird habitat. She
remarked that the fact that brown creepers chose to nest there made it special. She added that
Willamalane was including a birding trail on its Web site that would include 21 different
locations.
MINUTES — Citizen Planning Committee of the October 11, 2007 Page 7
Whilamut Natural Area
