Mr. Richardson said it was not so simple. People who made maps had to have the Whilamut Natural Area
"on their radar." There were so many maps created using the GIS system in the City, that it was impossi-
ble to notify everyone about the naming issue. The GIS Parks Layer currently showed all parks as green,
without separate names for each section of park. Names could be put on sections of park, but a border
might not show up. He said he would discuss the issue with Neil Bjorklund, who manages the Parks Layer.
Ms. Larison asked about ODOT's use of N Walnut Rd. She noted that on the Springfield end, the barri-
cades were always up and people (mostly bicyclists) were always moving them. She wondered if these
could be removed when ODOT or the contractor were not using the road.
Ms. Mello and Mr. Richardson thought Mr. Wieseke was the right person to talk to about this issue.
b. Willamalane
Mr. Hyde said that the report from Willamalane maintenance staff was that not a lot has been done in
Eastgate Woodlands since the CPC last met other than what ETF had been doing. Eric DeBord from
Maintenance said that REI had partnered with ETF on one of its work parties in the Eastgate Woodlands.
Willamalane had received only one application for the Springfield CPC opening, from Valerie Bailey.
Subsequently, she had withdrawn her application because she was planning on moving. He did not have
the budget to continue to advertise the position. He would speak to Willamalane Public Affairs staff about
advertising the positions via Willamalane's social media sites and website. The application deadline could
be extended. He asked that CPC members help him find a CPC member from Springfield.
Mr. Cooper asked about a backlog.
Mr. Hyde said that the backlog had consisted of Ms. Bailey and Lane Branch, who also could not do it. He
encouraged the CPC to use their networks to generate interest.
Ms. Ferschweiler suggested Ashlee, the volunteer coordinator, who could send an announcement to volun-
teers about the open position.
Mr. Sonnichsen agreed that the CPC should reach out to their networks.
Ms. Mello suggested reaching out to other groups that had a commitment to the park, including the Ameri-
can Veterans Post 16. She asked if Springfield had an "adopt a park" program.
Mr. Hyde said that the volunteer coordinator was trying to keep track of volunteers. He would check into
this. The Willamalane Board had to appoint the new CPC member. He suggested this be done at the June
8 Willamalane Board.meeting.
Ms. Behm asked Mr. Burke for suggestions.
Mr. Burke said he would think about it.
Mr. Hyde asked that ideas be forwarded to him.
Mr. Sonnichsen commended Mr. Biggs for his Eastgate Woodlands pedestrian/bicycle detour route sug-
gestion. He noted that this was Mr. Biggs' last meeting as a CPC member. The new pedestrian/bicycle
MINUTES— Citizen Planning Committee for the April 21, 2011 Page 13
Whilamut Natural Area
