commented that she thought these might be the logs that were brought in
for habitat — and that fire danger comes, typically, from dry grasses and
twigs.
Howie suggested that we add an agenda item for the next CPC
meeting if we want to move forward with any of these specific issues.
Vicky noted that along the west side of the Autzen footpath, there are
big chunks of erosion on the steep slope; some people ride mountain bikes
there. She suggested we place this on a list of issues to address.
Government Relations David Sonnichsen reported.
On April 30, the subcommittee met with Bob Beals of the UO Athletic
Department. Participants included Howie, Andy, and David from the CPC,
and Carolyn Weiss and Philip Richardson of POS, in addition to Bob Beals.
David reported that there was good communication, and that this
could lead to better coordination during football events.
One issue is the significant number of football fans crossing Harris
Parkway from the main UO Autzen lot and urinating in the WNA. Traffic
issues, including EVBMX, were discussed.
As a follow -up, Bob Beals said he would talk to EPD about having
police watch the area where people are relieving themselves. Howie stated
that he came away from the meeting with a very positive feeling.
7. Staff Reports
Willamalane Pat French.
Bob Foster, an avid volunteer in Eastgate Woodlands, has been doing
ivy removal on trees.
At Quail Run, EWEB is going to do restoration. Pat provided input
regarding their restoration plan.
Former CPC member Catherine Larson called and requested a
handicapped accessible logo on the Eastgate Riverside Trail. Catherine is
concerned that it may appear the trail is only for walking and not suitable
for wheelchairs. Catherine asked for signage reading that the path is
wheelchair accessible.
Pat stated that to label it accessible, the path would have to meet ADA
specifications, which it does not. Pat will look into other ways to indicate to
wheelchair riders that there are no steps on the path.
Willamalane is still working with ODOT on the failed plantings from
the Temporary Replacement Bridge project. MOT has agreed to install
new plantings. One of the issues is that there is still compacted gravel where
the trees were planted.
There was recently a Willamalane in -house meeting to begin
discussions on what Willamalane would like to see funded from the current
