LANE COUNTY PARKS DIVISION <br />SUBJ: DELTA PONDS - REPORT BACK <br />Friends of Eugene /Springfield Habitats (FRESH) recently memo to the Lane <br />County Board of Commissioners and the Eugene City Council expressing strong <br />support for declaring the publicly held lands in .the Delta ponds, Debrick <br />Slough area as' a Nature Park. The Beard requested that the Parks Division <br />research this possibility and report back to the Board on this issue, <br />- Q wnershiv Pattern <br />As far as staff can determine, the County owns two (2) parcels of land adjacent <br />to Delta Ponds. One parcel is located east of K -Mart and is approximately 7 <br />acres and was purchased by the County in June, 1964. The second parcel is <br />located east of Delta Hwy. and west of Russet Drive (see map).and is <br />approximately 4 acres and was acquired by the County through tax foreclosure <br />and has been offered in Sheriff's Sale. <br />The 7 -acre parcel is zoned R -2, PD - multi -use, planned unit development and <br />allows for higher density residential than single - .family. The 4 -acre parcel is <br />zoned R -1, single family residential. <br />Current Use: <br />The County is not using the properties at'this time.' Most of the 4 acres <br />parcel"is a pond and the 7 acre parcel consists of a field and.a marshy.area. . <br />. Future Use <br />The Natural.Resources Functional Plan contains detailed policies and <br />recommended actions concerning the natural resource system in the - <br />Eucene- Springfield Metropolitan Area. The Debrick Slough and all the Delta <br />Panes were inventoried in the study and recommended for waterside protection. <br />Some sites were recommended for low impact recreation or active recreation and <br />all. were recommended for clean -up ana restoration. The Natural Resources <br />Functional Plan has not been adopted by the County but has been included for <br />review in.the Metro Plan's Periodic Review-process currently underway. <br />City of Eugen Role <br />City of Eugene staff has indicated an - interest in accepting ownership and <br />
