Hammitt, Bob
From: Lyle, Les
To: CEEXLHN
Cc: Andersen, Chris; Hammitt, Bob
Subject: RE: Ascot Park
Date: Friday, October01, 1993 12:51PM
Linda, thanks for the note. 1 was simply the lucky person to sign the letter last Friday since no else was here.
We in engineering designed the project, however, parks maint. (John Etter) is lead on the project
justification/need. He is currently working to set up a meeting next week to discuss with the property owners the
issues and options. It appears the key issue really is not the lights but the impacts created by the general use of
the park and the lack of respect some users have for the surrounding neighborhood. That may need to be the
focus of what is discussed verses the lighting. We are planning to delay some of the construction to allow this
discussion to occur but still anticipate the project will proceed. But who knows ? ? ?? The PSO sent a copy of the Ietter, over
to you. In short, they're saying they weren't adequately notified of
the decision to install the lights, they are against more intense use
of the park, their property values will go down, traffic will increase,
etc.
They've asked that this item be placed on a Council agenda for discussion.
Apparently, Paul was going to raise it under "Items" on Wednesday, but
there was not time.
•
Les, will you call me or send me a note with background on this issue
so I can answereouncil questions. Was this a staff decision, or was
it processed by some citizen group/board, etc? (This is probably one
of those instances when we need a board.)
Thanks, Linda
Page 2
