JEFFERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL
This site, on 4 -J property between Graham Field and the school
track, currently is layed out for 3 youth sized soccer fields.
To accommodate softball, one field would have to be eliminated or
a replacement field created on a different side of the school.
The three fields are currently of such poor quality that they are
not fully utilized by the school.
The advantage of this site is that restrooms are present, and
that lighting expansion might be more acceptable to neighbors
since it would be seen as an expansion of Graham Field. The
complex is accessed by arterial streets. The lighting components
from Ascot should be sufficient to light this smaller complex,
with possibly some components remaining for a future project.
The disadvantages are that the two remaining soccer fields would
be about 15% short in both length and width for adult sized
fields (still suitable for Kidsports), and only one lighted
softball field is added; there is already insufficient parking,
with much of it deemed hazardous as it occurs on the arterial
streets. The soils are very poor, requiring the Cambridge
drainage system in order to create a sufficiently long season and
durability.
Costs to develop it to the standard of the adjacent Graham Field
are:
Construct diamond $22,000
Cambridge drainage system (3.3 acres at $30,000) 100,000
3" Topsoil 16,000
Turf seed and fertilizer 12,000
Off - street parking - -80 cars 100,000
Subtotal $250,000
Engineering and contingency at 20% 50,000
Total Cost $300,000
CENTURY - AMAZON FIELD
This soccer field lies parallel to Amazon Creek, south of the
Roosevelt Middle School soccer fields at 24th Avenue. It has an
overlapping softball diamond.
The advantages of this site are its off - street parking at either
Roosevelt School or Amazon Pool; it already benefits from the
Cambridge drainage system; access is from arterial streets; and
4
