Sheldon High School. Residents may elect to participate in the program -- which requir- O O
q,
bumper sticker permit to park on- street during school hours -- on a block -by -block basis. The
1'
parking demand on the Sheldon campus exceeds the supply and, as a result, a number of students
park in the nearby neighborhood. This is a problem that the City and neighbors have wrestled
with for some time and has come to the forefront during forums on the youth sports park.
A series of workshops specifically aimed at the design of two skate parks is also under way. The
first of three skate park workshops was held in early September, with well over 100
skateboarding enthusiasts and interested parties in attendance. The second is scheduled for mid -
October, and the final workshop is set to take place in early November. There appears to be
tremendous support in the community for these facilities.
Amazon Pool Renovation
The Amazon Pool renovation project team recently completed six schematic design input
sessions with user groups representing competitive swimmers, recreation swimmers, fitness
patrons, people with disabilities, Aquatics staff and Facilities staff. The sessions resulted in a
wide range of suggested improvements to the July 27 conceptual design, and architects Carl
Sherwood and Dave Guadagni of Robertson/Sherwood /Architects PC are in the process of
incorporating approved changes into new drawings. On Tuesday, November 23, an updated
design will be shown during a public information session at 7 p.m. at Hilyard Center.
i 1 4,./ , , ra
mup
0 cat.,h
re area ,54, .. k ..
C
411 1. If they fall within the $4.4 million budget,
they will be elements of the planned renovation:
• A new, 50- meter, eight -lane pool with three diving boards and an accessibility ramp
• Renovation of the existing beginner pool
• A new, zero depth to three feet, multipurpose pool
• A 15- person- capacity spa
• New decks and shade structures
• Enlarged turf area, with a wheelchair accessible berm
