0
• Enlarged sand play area
• Expansion of the bathhouse 449
• A new concessions building
• Seventy additional parking spaces.
4p7
The project schedule calls for a second public involvement meeting in November, design
development in November - December, development of construction documents January -May
2000, construction beginning in August 2000, and the grand reopening of the pool in July 2001.
Public Information, Education, and Involvement
A number of public involvement activities have been described above in conjunction with
specific projects. Because many of the public meetings are advertised in local newspapers, ad
templates have been designed incorporating consistent typography and images.
Signs have been placed at active project sites to build awareness of Parks and Open Space
activities. A dozen large signs have been manufactured and placed at various athletic fields and
park sites currently being renovated or developed. Additional signs will be constructed as
necessary to meet the goal of having all active projects signed for public awareness.
Thousands of residents visited the Parks and Open Space booth at the Eugene Celebration in
September. The booth, which was designed and staffed cooperatively by Public Works and
LRCS, was intended to be both fun and informative. Following the event, staff debriefed and
agreed to find additional venues in which the display materials can be presented to the public.
Web sites have been developed to provide meeting schedules, design drawings, and other
information, including quarterly Council reports. The index for park web sites is located at
www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/parks.
Financing the Parks and Open Space bond Measure Projects
On August 3, 1999, $19 million in General Obligation bonds were sold to fund Parks & Open
Space projects.
