RINER Andrea G
From: RINER Andrea G
Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 4:18 PM
To: JOHNSON Jim R
Cc: MEDLIN Johnny R; RHAY Tim W; COREY Kurt A
Subject: Yuri Sommer /Spring Blvd.
Jim,
After talking with Philip Richardson, Parks Planner, I have the following background information for your conversation with
Yuri Sommer:
Parks Planning received a phone call from Yuri Sommer this last winter, about some private construction that had taken
place at the end of Spring Blvd. Mr. Sommer reported that the Trail head had been impacted, and the trail sign removed.
Staff told him that the situation would be looked into and that we would get back to him. Following a site vist, it was
confirmed that the trail head had been changed, and that it appeared that the contractors had built across city owned land.
The sign had been taken down but was soon replaced, although in a new position that made using the sign confusing to
hikers.
Public Works Maintenance staff completed a survey in mid -May. Unfortunately what the survey indicated was just the
opposite of what we originally suspected. This portion of the Ridgeline Trail, built back in the 1980's, had actually been
aligned across private property.
Staff communicated the issues to the owners of the affected lot and assured them that the City would reroute the trait
Staff indicate that the property owner did not seem especially concerned.
Philip Richardson did call Yuri back several times, and left messages to call back. Yuri did not return these calls, so we
have not talked with him directly. In the meantime we have started work on trail realignment, including a necessary rare
plant survey done by Bruce Newhouse. We will block the trail that trespasses on private property and will relocate and /or
revise the trail head sign as appropriate.
Please let me know if you need any additional information, or would like me to speak with Yuri directly.
1
