MEDLIN Johnny R
From: BLACK Bradley G
To: MEDLIN Johnny R
Subject: More thoughts on the Owen facility
Date: Wednesday, January 17, 1996 1 :20PM
Johnny
I went over to the rose garden this morning and walked around again. I noted in the garage there are a
significant number of irrigation controllers and what appear to be conduits for future lighting in the parking
lot. Is the current thought to relocate these to the new facility or build a small tasteful enclosure and
leave them where they are? An enclosure may be the most cost effective solution given the number of
panels and controllers.
As to phasing where will the money come from that will fund the new construction? I ask because it
appears that open sites to the north of the rest home are located in such a manner that a new facility could
be built without impacting the existing house. Once complete, the house could be razed. This would have
the advantage of saving the cost of relocating the trailer from WISTEC a cost that I'd estimate at
$9,000 to $12,000. This money would be better spent on the new facility. What is the thought around
phasing? I'd like to discuss this with you
It is very apparent that we need to make some decisions around schedule in order to give the crews
adequate time to remove any plantings in the way of either new construction or demolition. I believe that
the existing house can be demo'ed with little if any impact on existing plantings. It will however take
some careful planning and temporary vegetation supports.
I did notice a few dead mice on the floor inside the house. Given the recent illnesses associated with mice
and the Hanta virus, I have concern about the potential risk of exposure to the employees and volunteers.
Has this issued been examined and addressed? If not, should it be and by whom?
As you can tell, I'm getting up to speed on this and would like to move forward as quickly as we
reasonably can. I don't want to force the process, but do want it to move forward in an orderly and timely
fashion. I would appreciate your assistance in achieving that goal I sense that there are a few others at
the rose garden who would be grateful as well
Thanks
Brad
1
1
1
1
4
4
4
Page 1
4
