All Management Unit
• Interested in matching donation to restore the Oak Knoll trail. (David Reed received
photo from 1939 from citizen.)
• sign at the head of Orchard Street directs traffic into Eaton Drive in spite of dead end
sign. (Suggest placing sign so this doesn't happen.)
• Gate the upper Rhody garden parking lot to allow closure at night. (Concern about public
safety, speed, partying.)
• Please do not make the view of downtown Eugene "enhanced" from the parking lot
looking West- Northwest.
• Worried about the deer munching on the native plants being restored. People should be
concerned that deer prefer to eat natives over invasives and this presents a problem for
management in addition to other problems.
• Small "botanical" garden with plants arranged by family to support interpretive plants.
This would not be a "natural" garden, but serves a purpose to deliver the family concept
upon which plant classification is based.
• I support the idea of restricted traffic in the park. Please do guard it's natural character.
• It's a good idea to manage the park for low impact use.
• I am very pleased with the information that the DAC and Eugene Park- related staff are
making a priority of protecting and enhancing the park's natural quality. Restricting
traffic, having a master plan that includes restoring native vegetation to the undeveloped
portion of the park, and limiting the sizes of groups are all great ideas.
• A zig -zag street in the park portion of Summit is another good idea. Trees could be
planted in zigs to block the wind tunnel and tranquility in the heart of the park could be
vastly enhanced by the fact that traffic would go very slowly - -a better way to enjoy
traveling through the park anyway. San Francisco treasurers it's "windiest" street in the
City and we would too. (Maybe the $500,000 cost of the zig -zag portion of Summit
might be financed with a federal grant.)
• Our city's population is growing and I believe that all our parks- -and especially those that
create tranquil, beautiful natural islands will be increasingly treasured. Your plans to
enhance low impact enjoyment of the park are a good investment in this special resource.
• Concerned over night lighting. We need to reduce it.
• Suggest creating a native plant nursery.
• Suggest narrowing Summit Road to a fire lane.
• Advocate for a Neighborhood Watch group or a park patrol.
• Entry into the park is confusing. Need better signage and signage that meets ADA
(braille, etc.)
• Suggest installing benches throughout the park, especially in areas going up hill on the
trail.
• Suggest encouraging bike access into the park by placing bicycle parking area at the top.
(The only bike rack now is at the base of Summit.)
• Excellent comprehensive plan developed by DAC and David Reed & Associates!
Another of Eugene's greatest resources are it's citizens who are informed, articulate, and
willing to get involved as stewards of Hendricks Park and other urban forested areas in
Eugene (Spencers, Skinners, Ridgeline trail, etc.). Many excellent ideas presented,
though I probably would support closure of Fairmount Blvd. As elderly and
