ExhibitC
Hendricks Park Forest
Department Advisory Committee
Open House Comments
November 17, 1999
Saddle Management Unit
• Close Summit above houses
• Plant Oaks
• Close Birch below road near shelter (Birch begins at the shelter and goes up to Skyline)
• Close road near playground
• Close winding road through park (Fairmount)
• Enlarge definition of neighbors to include Skyline
• Legal boundary survey (park boundary)
• "Poles" in saddle to habitat trees as originally stated (1998)
• Remove trees R48, R49 and R45. Even though thinned, still dangerous
• New road past old animal pens
• Park & Ride (bus shuttle into park) in large lot across from Fairmount Pk and just east of
Oregon State PD
• Close park access with barricades from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. - still allowing residents to get
to their homes
• More police monitoring to reduce vandalism and drug trafficking
• If the highest priority is the wind up Summit, let's address that with a solution: close off
Summit from Parkside Drive east. Re- forest that area with wind resistant trees. Access
the park from the periphery (Birch, upper Fairmount) This would also reduce
pedestrian/car confrontations at the intersection.
• On Saturday and Sunday during the peak Rhododendron season, shuttle visitors up Birch
every 30 minutes. They could park their cars at the ODOT maintenance area by
Fairmount Park. This reduces cars, etc. During the winter, stop the shuttle, visitor use
declines.
• At the very least, barricade Summit with barricades operated with power for emergency
vehicles and enforce no car traffic through the park after 10 p.m. This reduces cars /teens
from drinking, off roading, litter, etc.
Oak Forest Management Unit
• Encourage neighbors to plant Oaks and other native plants.
• Plant trees along the sides of Summit to break up the venturi effect.
• Are there plans to widen Summit? (Not encouraged.)
Douglas -fir Management Unit
no comments
