08 /08 /00 08:40 $541 687 5414 CITY MGR'S OFF. nalC.iQ G x- ` a' - Ijoo1 /001
1
June 27, 2000
Mr. rim Torrey RECEIVED
Mayor, Eugene City Council BY CITY MANar ER
777 Pearl JUN 3 0 2000
Eugene, Or 97401
Dear Mayor Torrey,
I am requesting your assistance to support my efforts to accomplish an exchange of land
with the City of Eugene to facilitate the development of a golf course on the 223 acres
surrounding the Golden Garden Ponds.
The development of this site for a golf course has been on the Eugene Park's
Department's 'wish list' since 1985. We worked with the Parks Department to facilitate the
trade in 1992. The exchange was on the June 1992 Council agenda, staff was directed to
work with us on the trade. Then an issue came up that we wanted to resolve before
taking it back to Council. We are now at that point where the exchange should be
completed so the final course design can be adjusted to accommodate the ponds, wetlands
and natural habitat.
We have a Special Use Permit to develop the golf course_ The State has issued permits
for construction of deep -water wells for the project. An ecological report and preliminary
wetland report will soon be available and the engineer said it looks very good.
We want to exchange a portion of our land which lies south of the A-2 channel for the
City owned ponds which lie north of the A -2 channel. This trade will provide the Parks
Department about 25 acres; including the pond south of the A -2, on which to develop a
neighborhood park and bike, walking and nature trails, east from Terry Street to the City
limits just west of Wilber Street.
Bobby Green suggested we call the ABC neighborhood association, and ask to present the
plan for the development of this nature - sensitive Scotch style golf course which is
scheduled for development by a local golf developer. Many of the Danebo citizens who
knew about, and approved, the 1992 -3 effort, will want to know how this will effect their
neighborhood. Mr. John Etter will make the presentation, Mr. Green and Mr. Farr plan
to be at the meeting on July 10. We invite you to attend, evaluate and speak to the issue.
If you are unable to attend we hope you can send a letter of support for the project.
You can call John Etter for an update on the project. I think you will be pleased with it.
Respectfully, Nekacs VZ 1--
•
344 -0817 1995 Potter. Eugene, OR 97405
