Department Advisory Committee and Volunteers Focus Group <br /> Brainstorming session on citizen involvement - January 21, 1998 <br /> Participants: Out of a population of almost 300 present/past participants in Department Advisory <br /> Committees and regular volunteers, we randomly selected a sample of 80 to invite to the session. Of <br /> those invited, there were 14 participants: Ted Briles, Peg Emery, Gary Chenkin, Phyllis Ford, Palmer <br /> Parker, Don Kahle, Bob Siegmand, Pat McDaniels, Marshall Kandell, Stanley Efferding, Earl Schulze, <br /> Mary Bentsen, Megan Colby, Rosalia Marquez - Ornelas. Not all participants were able to stay for the <br /> entire workshop. <br /> Ideas for Improvement: High Priorities <br /> Each participant had seven dots with which to vote. Not all participants used all seven dots. <br /> Three participants left the meeting before the voting occurred. <br /> # of Dots Ideas for Improvement <br /> 9 Volunteer hotline to help citizens find answers, who to call (volunteers use <br /> computer database to provide information.) <br /> 7 "Get involved" phone number — contact person who will help you get involved in <br /> volunteer activities, neighborhood groups, etc. <br /> 5 Neighborhood groups present an important viewpoint that should be considered <br /> along with others. Some neighborhoods are very diverse. Some areas of town are <br /> left out of neighborhood groups altogether. <br /> 5 Reinstate the Boards and Commissions in some areas (e.g., trees, bikeways) <br /> 5 Describe policy issues by how they will affect the public — give specific <br /> examples. <br /> 11 -6 <br />
