. <br /> vii. Serve as resource to the public on informational and <br /> technical matters as time permits. <br /> b. Horticultural personnel retained for the Garden on a <br /> continuing basis have direct responsibility to keep abreast <br /> of the best available technical information related to <br /> their designated work elements and to apply such knowledge <br /> to their programs and practices. <br /> c. In carrying out such duties as pruning, tree removal and <br /> plant replacement, which may affect the character of the <br /> plantings, maintenance personnel must be guided by the <br /> judgment of the appropriate design personnel. <br /> 5. Centralized Management, a coordinated infrastructure <br /> a. A lay task force appointed by the Executive Director and <br /> serving under his direction shall assist the staff in <br /> considerations of a revised program for the Garden. Members <br /> of the task force shall have substantial expertise to <br /> contribute to the program. The term of the task force <br /> shall be three years. <br /> 6. Citizen Participation, a broad support base <br /> a. In conjunction with the central Parks Foundation, the PARCS <br /> Department and concerned lay leaders shall foster broad <br /> citizen support by: <br /> i. Recruiting volunteer labor to assist in the care of <br /> the Gardens. <br /> ii. Establishing a business -like solicitation program to <br /> raise development funds from potential donors. <br /> 7. Conservation Measures, other quality controls <br /> a. Visitor activities appropriate to a botanical garden shall <br /> be limited to walking, resting on benches or turf, brown <br /> bag lunching and other unobtrusive pursuits. Active play, <br /> picnics (family sized groups), playing of electronic music, <br /> weddings and other activities which may adversely affect <br /> the tranquil atmosphere of the Garden must be accommodated <br /> in other parts of Hendricks or other parks specifically <br /> designed for them. <br /> b. Visitors may not bring any vehicles, except wheelchairs, <br /> into the Garden. <br /> c. Pets are prohibited within the Rhododendron Garden at all <br /> times, whether on a leash or not. <br /> d. Effective means of controlling vandalism shall be incorpor- <br /> ated in management of the Garden as they become feasible. <br />
