FRIENDS OF HENDRICKS PARK <br /> GOALS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS - OUR FIRST THREE YEARS <br /> Volunteerism <br /> • Monthly forest restoration work parties. Almost 1,000 volunteer hours. Co- sponsor with <br /> Eugene Parks & Open Spaces. <br /> • "Oak Knoll Trail" restoration. Over 350 volunteer hours. Co-sponsor with Recreational <br /> Equipment, Inc. <br /> • "Adopt -a- plot" in the Native Plant Garden. Over 200 volunteer hours. <br /> • Native Plant Garden "Moon Terrace ": Design, engineering and construction supported by <br /> over 400 volunteer hours. <br /> • Public Information Kiosk. Joint project with City of Eugene Neighborhood Grant. Built by <br /> volunteers from Rainbow Valley Construction. 30 volunteer hours. <br /> • "Wildflower Trail ". Maintained yearly by students and parents of Edison Elementary School. <br /> Over 80 volunteer hours. <br /> • "Tuesday Morning Regulars" Rhododendron Garden volunteers. 50 hours per month. <br /> Education <br /> • Continuing community service program with Edison Elementary School families <br /> • Edison 3' grade school project including classroom learning and on site restoration planting in <br /> forest. Co-sponsor with Walama Restoration. <br /> co. • Friends of Hendricks Park Lecture Series. Open to public. Three times /year. <br /> • "Mending Natural Systems in our Cities ". A workshop for restoration professionals. Co- <br /> sponsor with the City of Eugene (Fall 2003). <br /> • On site educational tours with local elementary school students. <br /> Membership/Fundraising <br /> • Over 250 family /households and businesses contributing over $61,000. <br /> • Published seven informational newsletters since fall 2002 <br /> • Beppe & Gianni's fundraiser raised over $2,000. <br /> Building Projects <br /> • Added four new benches to the Native Plant Garden <br /> • Construction of Moon Terrace finished September 2004 <br /> • Informational/neighborhood Kiosk funded through Neighborhood Grant program <br /> Ongoing Projects <br /> • Forest restoration and invasive plant removal projects <br /> • Oak Knoll restoration planning and grant applications <br /> • Rhododendron Garden Project planning for maintenance and improvements <br /> • Develop a new Park Trail Map for the informational kiosk <br /> • Develop a docent program for park tours <br /> • Prepare educational project for park centennial in 2006 <br />
