MEDLIN Johnny R
From: HOSTICK Robin A
Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2006 10:44 AM
To: WEISS Carolyn J; GIRARD Chris J; MCRAE Matt A
Cc: MEDLIN Johnny R
Subject: FW: Hendricks Entryway signs - update
FYI - I concur with Jerry's summary below. The project needs some clarity around funding and a local coordinator
(FOHP or City) for site work and installation, which will be the next key step. We've provided design and
coordination up to this point, including the custom - fabricated signs due for delivery from the artist in Salem in a
week or two.
Matt, thanks again for offering to help out. Chris will get in touch if they wish to take you up. -Robin
From: JerryBlakely@cs.com [mailto:)erryBlakely @cs.com]
Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2006 8:05 AM
To: HOSTICK Robin A
Cc: freda @efn.org; ALFRIEND Ginny D
Subject: Re: Hendricks Entryway signs - update
Robin,
It appears that we will have to postpone construction of the entry signs until next spring or summer. We have
difficulties with people, weather, and money.
Greg has pulled out, as he is too busy with other projects now. Thomas doesn't want to work in the rain, as it
increases both time and cost. Also, we had said previously that we didn't want to install posts in wet ground. And
now that we have a better idea about total cost, we need to raise more funds than I expected. The signs cost
$6,500, posts and installation $1,500 to $2,500, and stone work $5,000. This adds up to $13,000 to $14,000. At
this point I'm the only one who has offered any funding and 1 can't afford to pay that much. We need to do a
matching fund project with the city, and maybe try to raise additional outside funds. I'll communicate directly with
Johnny about cost sharing.
I am hoping to get out to Eugene before the end of this year so I can meet personally with people and get this
project back on track. In the meantime, I'll communicate via phone and email.
Regarding the stain, you should be able to spec that. It should match the stain on the posts in the shelter, and I
assume there are records as to what was used there.
Jerry
•
11/27/2006
